If you live or work in Brickell, selling a diamond ring is rarely just a transaction. Maybe an engagement didn’t become a marriage. Maybe a divorce is behind it and you’d rather turn the ring into something useful and move on. Maybe you’re trading up as your career takes off, or a job relocation means it’s time to let a piece go. Whatever the reason, you want a fair number, a fast process, and someone who actually knows what a diamond is worth.

Here’s the honest landscape: near Brickell, you really have three ways to sell a diamond ring — a specialist local buyer, a pawn shop, or an online marketplace. Each has genuine trade-offs. This guide compares them straight, so you can decide what fits your ring and your timeline — and understand what you’ll actually walk away with in each case.

Vivid Diamonds & Jewelry has bought and sold fine jewelry from the historic Alfred I. DuPont Building in Downtown Miami since 2010 — a short trip north across the Miami River from Brickell. We’re a direct diamond buyer, not a pawnbroker or a mail-in service, and that difference shows up in the offer.

The three ways to sell a diamond ring near Brickell — compared honestly

With a diamond ring, the number you’re offered lives and dies on two things: who evaluates the stone and how much margin the buyer has to build in to make money reselling it. That’s exactly where pawn shops and online marketplaces tend to cost you. A pawnbroker usually can’t grade a diamond’s 4Cs, so they price defensively and low. An online sale can look competitive on the surface, but fees, shipping risk, and time erode it. Here’s how the three stack up.

What matters Vivid Diamonds (direct buyer) Pawn shop Online marketplace
Who evaluates your ring A GIA Graduate Gemologist, in person, in front of you A pawnbroker — most don’t have a gemologist on staff You, from photos — or a remote grader you never meet
Typical payout Strong offers based on true wholesale value, with no retail or pawn middleman markdown Often a fraction of real value; stones get discounted heavily when they can’t be properly graded Can be competitive, but marketplace & payment fees plus buyer haggling eat into it
Time to payment Same day, on the spot Same day Days to weeks — list, wait for a buyer, ship, wait for funds to clear
Fees / shipping risk None. No fees, nothing to mail No fees — but the low offer is the real cost Listing & final-value fees, shipping insurance, and chargeback or non-payment risk
Safety of your item Evaluated in a private, secure office — it never leaves your sight Handed across a storefront counter You mail a valuable ring to someone you’ve never met
Transparent, negotiable pricing We walk you through the 4Cs and how the number is built — no obligation Often take-it-or-leave-it, with little explanation You set a price, but lowball offers set the outcome
Walk away with cash today Yes Yes No

One important distinction with pawn shops: a pawn loan is not a sale. You’re borrowing against the ring and paying it back with interest to get it returned — if you can’t, they keep it. If your goal is to sell the ring outright and be done, make sure you’re getting a buy-out offer, not a loan. For a deeper look at the math, see our guide on how to sell a diamond ring.

What Vivid pays for a diamond ring — and how the offer is calculated

A diamond ring’s value is mostly in the stone, then the setting, then the name on it. Our GIA Graduate Gemologists build every offer transparently from:

  • The diamond’s 4Cs — carat weight, cut, color, and clarity. If you have a GIA certificate, we’ll grade against it; if not, we grade the stone in front of you.
  • The setting metal — gold is valued by weight and karat, platinum by weight; the mounting has real melt value on top of the stone.
  • Signed or branded pieces — a Tiffany & Co., Cartier, or Harry Winston setting in good condition commands a premium over an unbranded equivalent.
  • Condition and completeness — original box, papers, and receipts help, but they’re not required.

The reason our offers hold up against pawn shops and online buyers comes down to one thing: Vivid is a direct diamond buyer. Founder Alon Ruschin comes from a diamond wholesaling background, so we buy for our own inventory and wholesale channels — there’s no pawnbroker or retail middleman taking a cut out of your number first. You can see current market context on our sell your diamond jewelry page.

How to prepare your diamond ring before selling

A little prep gets you a faster, cleaner offer:

  • Gather any paperwork — GIA certificate, an appraisal, or the original receipt. Helpful, not mandatory.
  • Know that an appraisal is not a resale price. Insurance appraisals state a replacement value at full retail and are deliberately high. Real-world resale value is lower — any honest buyer will tell you the same. Use the appraisal as documentation, not as your target price.
  • Give it a gentle clean — warm water and a soft brush. A clean stone shows its true sparkle.
  • Bring a valid government photo ID. Florida requires ID for secondhand precious-metal and jewelry transactions — it’s standard and protects you too.
  • Book a quick appointment so a gemologist is ready when you arrive. It keeps the visit short — which matters if you’re fitting it around a Brickell workday.

Getting to Vivid Diamonds from Brickell

We’re at the Alfred I. DuPont Building, 169 East Flagler Street, Suite 905, in the heart of Downtown Miami — roughly 1.5–2 miles north of Brickell, just across the Miami River.

By car

It’s a short drive — often just a few minutes outside of rush hour, longer when Downtown is busy. From most of Brickell, head north on Brickell Avenue (US-1) or SE 2nd Avenue, cross the Miami River bridge into Downtown, and continue to East Flagler Street. Coming from the eastern, bayfront side of Brickell, Biscayne Boulevard north into Downtown works just as well.

Parking

The Alfred I. DuPont Building has a garage directly behind it at 170 NE 1st Street (around 500 spaces, with valet). If it’s full, the Flagler Garage at 35 SW 1st Street and several other Downtown garages are within a couple of blocks. Metered street parking is run by the Miami Parking Authority and can be paid by app — handy for a quick appointment.

Public transit

Brickell is one of the easiest neighborhoods to reach us from without a car. The Metromover is free, and the Brickell loop connects straight into Downtown — ride to the First Street station and it’s about a 3-minute walk to our door. You can also take Metrorail from Brickell station up to Government Center, roughly a five-minute walk away, and Brightline’s MiamiCentral is close by for anyone coming from farther afield.

The building

The DuPont Building is a landmark 1930s Art Deco tower — you’ll find us on the 9th floor in Suite 905. Every evaluation happens in a private, secure office by appointment, so your ring and your business stay discreet.

Why Brickell sellers choose Vivid Diamonds

Brickell runs on people who are busy and value discretion — finance, law, tech, and founders who don’t have a spare afternoon and don’t want their business on display. That’s exactly the kind of sale we’re built for:

  • Direct wholesale buying (Alon Ruschin). We buy diamonds direct, so your offer isn’t trimmed by a pawn or retail middleman.
  • In-person GIA Graduate Gemologist evaluation. Expert grading you can watch happen — not mail-in guesswork or a pawnbroker with no gemologist.
  • Same-day payment, no obligation, free quotes. If you’re selling after a divorce or a broken engagement, you can turn the ring into cash the same day and close the chapter.
  • Safety and privacy. Your ring is evaluated in a secure private office and never leaves your sight — nothing shipped to a stranger.
  • Established 2010, fully accredited. GIA Graduate Gemologists on staff, and membership in the Jewelers Board of Trade, the World Federation of Diamond Bourses, the Jewelers Vigilance Committee, the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers, the Accredited Gemologists Association, and the BBB.

For engagement rings specifically, our sell your engagement ring page walks through the process end to end. We also serve sellers across the wider area — Downtown, Edgewater, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, and Key Biscayne — all a short trip from the same Downtown office. (Our Downtown Miami guide is the hub for the whole area.)

What our customers say

Sellers come to Vivid for straight answers and offers that hold up. Reviewers like Denise P., Pnina C., and Ady P. have shared their experiences working with our team.

“Alon is so wonderful to work with — we’d trust him with anything.”
— Ady P.

“It is not often you come across a company that operates so ethically.”
— Pnina C.

Backing that up: a GIA-credentialed team, more than a decade in business, and accreditation from the industry bodies that hold jewelry buyers to account — the Jewelers Vigilance Committee, the World Federation of Diamond Bourses, and the Jewelers Board of Trade among them.

Selling a luxury watch in Brickell, too?

A lot of Brickell sellers who bring in a ring also have a watch they’ve outgrown. We buy luxury timepieces — Rolex, and other premium brands — valued by model, reference, and condition, with the same in-person, transparent approach. If that’s you, start with our watches page or ask about a watch when you come in.

Frequently asked questions

How much can I sell my diamond ring for near Brickell?

It depends entirely on the diamond’s 4Cs, the setting, and any brand name — two rings that look similar can be worth very different amounts. The best way to know is a free, no-obligation quote where a GIA Graduate Gemologist grades the stone in front of you and explains the number. Remember that resale value sits below the retail replacement figure on an insurance appraisal.

Will a pawn shop near Brickell give me more than a jeweler for a diamond ring?

Usually not, for diamond rings specifically. Most pawn shops don’t have a gemologist, so they can’t confidently grade the stone and price defensively low to protect their resale margin. A direct diamond buyer values the stone properly and doesn’t have that middleman markdown, which is why the offer is typically higher.

Do I need the GIA certificate or the receipt to sell my ring?

No. Paperwork helps and can speed things up, but it isn’t required — our gemologists grade the diamond on-site. Bring whatever you have, and a valid government photo ID.

Can I sell my engagement ring after a divorce discreetly?

Yes. Every evaluation is done privately by appointment in a secure office in the DuPont Building. Many sellers want a quiet, same-day resolution, and that’s exactly how we work — no storefront counter, no shipping, no fuss.

How fast can I get paid?

Same day. If you accept the offer, you can walk out with payment on the spot — no waiting for a listing to sell or funds to clear.

Is it better to sell my ring online or locally in Miami?

Online can occasionally fetch a strong price, but you trade speed and safety for it — fees, shipping a valuable item to a stranger, buyer haggling, and days or weeks of waiting. Selling locally to a direct buyer gets you an expert, in-person offer and same-day cash with none of that risk.
